Most UAE universities pay for ads. We checked the three public ad libraries for the 79 universities in our ranking: Google, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and LinkedIn. 56 of 79 run their own ads. Google comes first, with 45.
The ads mostly ask for an application, and they mostly aim at postgraduates. Fewer websites are set up to follow up the enquiries the ads bring in. Only 27 of 78 sites show a system that does.
The study: 100 UAE universities measured and 79 ranked, October 2026. Ads were checked on 27 October 2026.
How many UAE universities advertise, and where?
Google, Meta and LinkedIn each publish a library of the ads running on them. Anyone can search it. We searched each library for each university and kept only the university’s own ads, shown in the UAE. That gave 2,479 ads.
Google is the most used
Universities running their own ads, of 79
A Google ad counts here when it links to the university’s own website. So an agency runs some of these ads for the university. For a few branch campuses, the parent university runs them.
Do universities advertise on Google, Meta and LinkedIn together?
Few do. Each platform reaches a student at a different moment: searching on Google, scrolling on Instagram, or reading LinkedIn at work.
Few universities use all three
How many of the three libraries each university advertises on
Only 13 universities advertise on all three. For 23 we found none of their own ads. That does not prove they never advertise. Some have no social media links on their website, so we searched by name, and we may have missed an account.
What do UAE university ads ask students to do?
Mostly to apply. We read the words in each Meta and LinkedIn ad. Of 1,257 ads, 477 are about admissions: apply, intake or deadline. Most of the rest had no clear message.
Meta also shows the button on each ad. 132 of 417 Meta ads carry an “Apply Now” button.
Few ads give the student a reason to choose. Only 86 talk about careers and jobs, and 25 about rankings or accreditation. 21 mention a scholarship or discount.
An ad that only says “apply now” works for a student who has already chosen you. A student still comparing universities needs a reason first.
Are UAE university ads aimed at undergraduates or postgraduates?
Mostly postgraduates. Of the same 1,257 ads, 342 speak to postgraduates: a master’s, an MBA or a doctorate. Only 92 speak to undergraduates.
So most paid ads in the UAE work for postgraduate intakes. An undergraduate team that wants a share of the paid budget will need its own case.
Can a university measure what its ads bring in?
To measure an ad, the website needs a tag. A tag is a small piece of code that records who arrives from an ad and whether they apply. We opened each website in a browser and recorded the tools it loaded.
Most advertisers carry a tag
Ad tags on the website against ads in the libraries, 78 sites
Most universities that advertise carry a tag. 9 advertise with no tag seen on the site. Their tag may wait for a cookie click, or the site may not track the ads at all.
The tag is only the first step. The enquiry must then reach someone who follows it up.
Ad tags are common, follow-up tools are not
Tools found on each website, of 78
27 of 78 sites carry an ad tag with no CRM, marketing-automation or admissions system seen. Some universities run these behind their forms, where a scan cannot see them. Only 9 sites show a cookie consent tool.
How do UAE universities compare with India’s private universities?
Our India study checked the ads of 194 private universities in July 2026. We counted them again with the same rules as the UAE.
The same share advertise
Share of universities, and of Meta ads, India against the UAE
The share that advertises is the same, 71% in both. UAE universities use LinkedIn more: 37% against 19%. Indian universities lean harder on the “Apply Now” button.
Two things differ. India was checked in July, at the height of its admissions season, and the UAE in October. And our India report counts every ad under a university’s name, so its own figures are higher than the ones here.
How can you see which ads a university is running?
The libraries are free. You can check your own university and the ones you compete with:
- Meta Ad Library (facebook.com/ads/library). Set the country to the United Arab Emirates and search for the university’s page.
- Google Ads Transparency Center (adstransparency.google.com). Set the region to the UAE and search for the university’s website.
- LinkedIn Ad Library (linkedin.com/ad-library). Search for the university’s company page.
The libraries show which ads are running, and their words and images. They do not show what the university spends, how many people saw the ads, or how many applied. Google also shows only a sample of each advertiser’s ads.
