Fewer Indian international schools advertise on Facebook than on Google, and their Facebook ads lean on the same few messages.
We scanned 645 school websites and found 178 carrying a Google Ads tag or a Meta pixel. We then searched the public ad libraries for all 178, and 140 had ads. Google ads appeared for 127 of those websites. Meta ads we could confirm came from the school appeared for 58, and 45 used both.
Across 284 verified Meta ads, 64 say admissions are open and 62 name a curriculum. Just 1 mentions results, and 55 carry a call-to-action button. For a school marketing head, that makes Facebook a place to say what parents compare, because the ads around yours rarely do.
Who advertises
How many Indian schools run Facebook ads?
We began with what a school's own website gives away. A Google Ads tag or a Meta pixel usually means the school has advertised, or plans to. Our technology scan in August 2026 found one on 178 of 645 websites (27.6%).
Next, we searched the Meta Ad Library and the Google Ads Transparency Center for each of those 178 websites. Meta's search returns any advertiser with a similar name, so we kept an ad only when the advertiser was the school or its own group. That removed a bookshop page and a property project, among others.
The bars below follow the cohort from the scan to verified Facebook and Instagram advertisers.
From ad tag to verified ads: Indian international school websites
So 140 of the 178 tagged websites (78.7%) ran ads, and 58 of 178 (32.6%) ran Meta ads we could verify. Across the whole scan, that makes at least 140 of 645 websites (21.7%) advertisers. Treat that share as a floor, because we never looked up websites without a tag.
We used the same ad-library method in our study of what Indian universities advertise, if you want the higher-education comparison.
Platform split
Should a school use Facebook ads or Google Ads?
Among the schools that advertise, Google is the default. Google ads appeared for 127 of the 178 tagged websites (71.3%), more than twice the 58 with verified Meta ads.
The bar splits the 140 advertising websites by where their ads ran.
Where 140 advertising school websites ran their ads
Just 13 of the 140 (9.3%) relied on Meta alone. The depth differs too. The median advertising website had 14 Google ads live or recent (base 127), and 9 of 127 (7.1%) had 100 or more. The median for verified Meta ads was 2 per website (base 58).
The trade-off is intent against reach. A search ad answers a parent who has already typed a question. A Facebook or Instagram ad reaches parents before they search, so the ad itself has to give them a reason to look.
A decision rule
Fund search first if parents in your city already search for schools by board or area. Add Meta once you have something a search ad cannot show: a campus film, a tour date, a named programme or a proof point.
Google counts include ads that a trust, society or agency account runs for the school's domain.
The message
What do school admission ads say?
We checked the text of the 284 verified Meta ads against keyword rules for eight themes. An ad can carry several themes, so the bars do not add up to the total.
What 284 verified school Meta ads mention
The top two themes are announcements. Saying admissions are open, or naming the board, tells a parent the school exists and is enrolling. It does not help them choose it over the school advertising beside it.
The themes that answer a shortlist question sit at the bottom. Eleven ads invite a visit, 3 mention fees or scholarships, and 1 mentions results. That one describes pupils as toppers and gives no figure.
The same pattern shows up in university advertising, where most creative follows one template. We traced it in how university ads are made and where they leak.
Format and ask
How do you make ads for a school?
Start with the format and the ask, since those were the other gaps in the 284 verified ads.
Format and ask in 284 verified school Meta ads
Most of these ads were live, so this is what parents were seeing that week. Only 55 of the 284 (19.4%) gave them a button to press. Where a button existed, Apply Now accounted for 36 of the 55, an ask that suits a parent who has already decided.
A process that closes those gaps:
- Pick one parent question per ad, such as fees, results, transport or the admissions timeline.
- Answer it in the first line of text, with a fact your admissions office will stand behind.
- Show it on video where you can, because a campus is easier to film than to describe.
- Add a button that matches the stage: Book a visit for a new parent, Apply Now for a returning one.
Here is how that changes a typical admissions-open ad. The example is ours, written for illustration.

Beyond ads
What is the best way to promote a school?
Paid ads are one channel, and plenty of schools have stepped back from them. Of the 178 websites carrying an ad tag, 38 (21.3%) showed no ads on Google, Meta or LinkedIn when we looked. A tag can outlive the campaign it was added for.
Ads also send parents somewhere. If the website they land on is slow or hides the enquiry form, the message stops working at the click. That is why we look at the ad, the website and the admissions path together.
For a worked example, read how an independent school rebuilt its admissions marketing across search and campaigns. To see where your own school stands, get your school's free scorecard. It sets your ads, website and reviews beside this cohort.
Method
How did we measure what schools advertise?
On 19 August 2026 we scanned the homepage technology of the international schools in our study. 672 schools returned a result and 11 failed scans were excluded. Several campuses share one website, so we count 645 websites.
Only the tagged schools went to the ad libraries: 184 schools, sharing 178 websites. The Google Ads Transparency Center was searched by domain on 9 September 2026. Each count is the figure Google reports, or the ads we collected where that figure could not be read.
The Meta Ad Library search on 8 September 2026 returned 471 unique ads. We kept 284 whose advertiser exactly matched the school, or which we reviewed by hand as the school or its group. Themes come from keyword rules on each ad's text.
Every cohort figure counts websites, not campuses. We name no school in this post. The wider study is in International Schools in India: Digital Report 2026.
