Transforming a Non-Profit’s Digital Presence

Discover how we revitalized Rural Development Trust’s website with a user-friendly design that boosted donations and enhanced their digital footprint, ensuring their vital work reaches even more communities in need.

Brief

Rural Development Trust (RDT) is a well-established NGO based in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, focusing on rural development initiatives in Andhra and Telangana. In June 2018, Judit Algueró, the International Communications Officer at RDT, reached out to us for a comprehensive website redesign. The existing site was outdated, suffering from frequent downtimes and security vulnerabilities, and lacked the necessary structure to effectively support their online donation goals.

Challenge

The key challenge was navigating the complexities of an old, content-heavy website that was difficult to use and prone to technical issues. RDT’s website had a convoluted information hierarchy, making it challenging for users to find relevant content quickly. The design was text-heavy with no clear call-to-actions, which led to low engagement and fewer online donations. The challenge was to revamp the site to be secure, user-friendly, and optimized for donations without losing the essence of the NGO’s mission.

Solution

To address these challenges, we began by conducting an in-depth content audit to categorize and streamline the existing material. This allowed us to eliminate unnecessary pages and re-organize the site structure for better user navigation. Understanding the need for a more visually engaging and user-friendly platform, we employed a 3-step design process, starting with low-fidelity wireframes and progressing to high-fidelity prototypes.

Throughout this process, we collaborated closely with RDT, ensuring that the website’s design remained consistent with the NGO’s brand identity, while also meeting the unique needs of their target audience. The process of collecting and organizing content was simplified by creating wireframes that guided the client on the exact amount of copy needed for each section, reducing the back-and-forth typically involved in content integration.

The new website was optimized for both performance and user engagement. We introduced a clean and intuitive design that not only improved navigation but also highlighted the core areas of RDT’s work.

Outcome

The redesign resulted in a highly functional and visually appealing website that not only addressed RDT’s immediate challenges but also significantly improved their online presence. The new site is now user-friendly, with clear navigation paths and prominent donation prompts, which have led to a marked increase in user engagement and online donations.
